Get a skin for it.3) The keyboard is great. I've had this phone a little over a year now, and I'm not impressed with it. 1) Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) starts at $30/month on top of your monthly rate plan. Apparently there's a chance to wind up with a stuck missed call notification each time the phone freezes.7) While the Blackberry operating system is intuitive, it has limitations when compared to other mobile operating systems.In short, I'll be going with a different platform next time around.
During one of these freezes, a missed call notification appeared that I couldn't clear. According to the forums and tech support, the only way to clear it is to wipe the phone, but I haven't tried this. 6) This phone freezes up every couple of weeks and I have to remove the battery to restart it. Voices alternate between sounding tinny and robotic.
Only BIS will work on a Blackberry, so if you want a cheaper plan, go with a non-Blackberry phone. I'm not sure if this is ATT's fault or Blackberry though.5) Sound quality on the Pearl is poor compared to Nokia and LG phones. My experiences with the Pearl are as follows. Its ability to store jargon is fantastic.4) I drop a lot of calls, and the phone will show to have full signal.
2) The phone does scratch and chip easily. (The service plan on smart phones starts at $10/month as a comparison). Also, if you choose not to have BIS and get the phone anyway (like I did), you won't be able to send/receive photo text messages.
In my previous Nokia, I could do almost anything from my PC when the phone was paired to it.The other thing thats been irritating me is that the phone just freezes up when u are using it. Its been now 7 months that I've owned this phone. I got the phone along with At& t's data plan. I receive a lot of emails and if i use the bluetooth in the car it drains even faster.I presume its not too much for asking of a cell phone to have a nice form factor and high reliability.I just hope the market for Nokia, here in the US opens up and we too can enjoy the rest of the models (the better ones) that never show up in the US.Overall I am waiting for my contract to finish up soon so that I can get a more reliable phone.
restart the phone and the problem goes.I'm also not impressed with the battery. The phone used to hold upto 3 days when it was new, but now after 7 months it can vary any where between 1 - 2days. I can make it move the other three directions but it would get stuck on one direction. I've done this so many times by now that I think the back cover is loose and comes off easily.I've had issues with the track ball too, at times it just wont go one way.
It didn't take too long to get used to the new keyboard layout and sending sms and replying back to mail was breeze. you have to open the cover and remove the battery. When I saw it for the first time, I was impressed by its look and the innovative new keyboard style and the track ball. Even the power off button doesn't work then.
Its useless, maybe you can sync outlook but other than that you can not tinker with the phone. This is the 4th phone that I've owned and the three prior to this were Nokias. But I was not impressed by the internet experience, thats probably the AT&T network.One thing that I hate about this phone is the PC sync software that they supply along with the phone.
The "Curve" model might be better if you're doing alot that you need more screen for , but for my needs (phone, email, music, web searches)this is perfect. It does seem really slow when it comes to downloading pictures, so I haven't really tried to transfer much there- even though I loaded it with a 1 GB card. I also haven't tried to do anything regarding downloads of video. I'm a total novice and this Blackberry Pearl has been much easier to use than I could have hoped for. It's also really pretty. It's smaller than I had thought - but that makes it really comfortable to use. I'm going from no cell phone since the old "brick phone" days to a Blackberry - my friends are shocked. The graphics are good - although I can't imagine really trying to work on many business type applications on such a small screen.I like being able to check on my email & download my music so I can have it with me - also access to Mapquest & GPS software is great to have.
When this dies I'll look into something else. I find I text less because it is too slow. The browser also works well. In the past couple of weeks the phone has locked up 3 times. You can't really store word or excel documents on it. I have had this phone for about 4 months.
The e-mail works as advertised. You can't save often used text messages. The size is very good and it feels good in the hand. The sure type has never learned to make "OK" when I type those keys and correct it. The battery must be removed to reset the phone. The phone and PTT functions work very well.
I had hoped to use this in place of my PDA but found out it won't serve my needs.
The Pearl is the perfect size for all that it holds, it has great features and an awesome speaker phone. I was the one to make fun of people addicted to their BlackBerrys, now I am one of them.
